Heart Surgeon Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty of Bengaluru says in an interview: 'Background music is a must in operation theatre whenever I have to perform an operation. It gives me a better concentration. Music goes on in all departments of my hospital.' Patients also feel relaxed by it, he says adding, it saves from other distracting sounds too arising from opening and closing of doors, etc. It is decided by the lead surgeon as which type of music will be there - classical or devotional (no 'kajra-re' please)! A report from British Medical Journal says that 62 to 72 percent surgeons like music during operation. Some other reports too claim that good music gives relief in arthritis, disc problem, high blood pressure, enhances memory and concentration as it activates both sides of the brain and produce endorphins hormone. Music has a long history in the field of surgery in Britain, dating back to 1914, barring playing  jazz or sentimental tunes. However, sometimes loudness of music makes communication less effective with nurses and other subordinate staff. Further, liking specific type of music shows your temper type too. Like, Classical music lovers are supposed to be creative and silent type. Dance music fans must be extrovert but not much sober. Rock listeners are usually hard working persons. Preferring Rap are said to be all-rounder!
