मां

मां दुर्गा के नवें रूप 'सिद्धिदात्री' में पहली आठों देवियों के रूप भी समाहित माने जाते हैं। मां सिद्धिदात्री का पूजा-मंत्र है:
सिद्धगन्धर्वयक्षद्यायै, असुरैरमरैरपि।
सेव्यमाना सदा भूयात, सिद्धिदा सिद्धिदायिनी।।
अर्थात 'सिद्ध, गंधर्व, यक्ष, असुर और अमरता प्राप्त देवों के द्वारा भी पूजित और सिद्धियां को प्रदान करने वाली देवी हमें भी आठों सिद्धियां प्रदान करें।'
प्राचीन शास्त्रों में वर्णित आठ सिद्धियां -- अणिमा, महिमा, गरिमा, लघिमा, प्राप्ति, प्राकाम्य, ईशित्व एवं वशित्व -- इन्हीं देवी की पूजा और कृपा से प्राप्त की जा सकती हैं। हनुमानजी को यह सभी सिद्धियां सीताजी ने प्रदान की थीं जिनसे वह अनेक असाध्य कार्य भी कर पाए। हनुमान चालीसा में भी यही वर्णन है कि 'अष्ट सिद्धि नव निधि के दाता, अस वर दीन्ह जानकी माता'। भगवान महादेव ने भी देवी सिद्धिदात्री की कठिन तपस्या कर इनसे यह सिद्धियां प्राप्त की थीं और इन्हीं देवी की कृपा से महादेव की आधी देह देवी की हो गई थी और वह अर्धनारीश्वर कहलाए। यह देवी कमल-पुष्प पर आसीन हैं। इनका वाहन भी सिंह है।
प्रायः अधिकांश देवियों का वाहन सिंह क्यों? अनादि काल मे पार्वतीजी घोर तपस्या में लीन थीं। तभी एक भूखा शेर उनकी ओर आया और उनका तप पूर्ण होने की प्रतीक्षा करने लगा। कई वर्षों की प्रतीक्षा में शेर बेहद कमज़ोर हो चुका था। देवी ने उसकी प्रतीक्षा को ही तपस्या मानकर उसे अपना वाहन बनाया।

..walking down memory lane!

Since I topped NDMC's Hindi Noting & Drafting Competition thrice consecutively, they were planning to honour me with a Silver Medal. However, I resigned from the civic body before the function and joined Indian Airlines, initially at Srinagar. Here, I began to get their telegrams to make arrangements to reach in time to get the award as "you have to come on the stage first of all". Being on probation, I couldn't make it. Sometime later, our OLIC team visited Srinagar and noticed my small achievements. Had I informed them of my First Prize, I would have been granted special leave and passage to get the same (they told me) that I collected much later. They published my brief profile in our news letter "Image". I was then also deputed as part-time Hindi Translator besides my normal duties as a Traffic Assistant. In 1987, our Srinagar station was awarded the Rajbhasha Trophy for best Hindi work. The Trophy was given to the then Station Manager, Mr. R. Rai by the Lt. Governor at Chandigarh. On his return, Mr Rai gave me two photos of receiving the award which are still with me and being shared with his approval. I also received an appreciation letter in this regard. A special 4-page Souvenir was also published later.

'तुम-सा' नहीं देखा!

3 मई 2016 की पोस्ट: "अभी अभी नाना बना हूं!" इस पंक्ति के साथ मैंने अपनी ताज़ा फ़ोटो ग्रुप में पोस्ट की है कि देख लो नाना ऐसा होता है - कहीं किसी को ऐसा भ्रम न हो जाए जैसा मुझे बचपन में हो गया था - रेडियो पर एक गाना सुन कर - 'यूं तो हमने.. तुमसा नहीं देखा'! गाना तो समझ से बाहर था। पर, कई साल यही सोचता रहा कि यह "तुमसा" शायद कोई बाइस्कोप या बंदर का खेल होता होगा। कई बाइस्कोप वालों से तो पूछा भी था, "भैया, 'तुमसा' दिखा रहे हो?"

क्षमा करें, आज वो पुरानी क़लम हाथ में आ गई जिस से लुक-छुप कर चिट्ठियां लिखते, छुपाते; बच्चों को टॉफियां भी खिलाते और डर कर भी रहते; कोई जवाब आने पर फिर उसे छुपाते फिरते। मोबाइल तब था नहीं। (होता तो, सच, पूजा करते!) उन दिनों 9 बजे एक मिनट का सायरन बजता था। बस, यही संकेत था कि उस एक मिनट में, उधर से गुज़रने पर, चिट्ठी का लेना-देना, दर्शन-वर्शन कर लो। कुछ आस-पड़ोस के लोग शायद सायरन बजने पर ही दहलीज़ पर बैठकर दातुन करते थे और हमें जब-तब यू-टर्न लेना पड़ता था। अंततः हमने एक कोड-भाषा ही बना डाली। मसलन,  ए के स्थान पर बी, बी के लिए सी.. वाई के लिए ज़ेड लिखना। थर्ड पार्टी को गुमराह करने के लिए, एक्स कहीं भी लिख सकते थे। पढ़ने वाला इसे बैक गियर में पढ़ेगा (बी की जगह ए)। अर्थात,  NPOEBZ  LBUJ  QBUBOH = MONDAY  KATI  PATANG ..फिर क्या -- लोगों की तो चिट्ठिया हीं पकड़ी जाती हैं, हमारा तो प्रॉस्पेक्टस ही पकड़ा गया। कट गई पतंग!..
(आजकल तो पता ही नहीं चलता, चादर ओढ़ कर साहबज़ादे सो रहे हैं, चैट कर रहे हैं या दिव्य-दर्शन कर रहे हैं!)  

None wanted 5L

I didn't permit Neha to drive car on Delhi's roads. Casually, she would drive to her office in my presence and I would take car back home. However, looking her interest, I kept aside 5L for an i-10 besides other wedding expenditure and let others knew of my intention. After 7-8 months, we visited US to meet them. One day, Neha and her mom were busy in shopping and Nimish and I were sitting idle in a mall. Here I informed him that all elders, including his mother, knew that I am holding some 5L as our humble contribution with blessings for their car whenever they might plan. He turned down this idea the next moment politely saying, 'Papa, you have already done all well. Now, it's all over. We are not going to accept that.' After one year, when an interest of about sixty thousand was accrued, I tried to see their reaction by transferring it to Neha's account. She immediately became suspicious and called me that she was going to return that. We persuaded that we wanted to bring some LED TV to their new home, but couldn't fearing if you would like it or not. On Prisha's first birthday, we again tried to convince them to let us put the amount in her name under some Sukanya Scheme for 21 years. इस पर भी काफी बवाल मचा तो नयन धीरे-से बोला, 'अरे, कोई नहीं ले रहा तो 5 लाख मुझे ही दे दो!' So, not only I transferred the amount in his name, her mom too did it with another 5L commenting, "Make it up to your own wedding expenditure.. Our responsibilities are all over now!"

दिल है कि ..

Life doesn't go on conditions with "ifs" and "buts", but 'dil hai ki..!' It always come to my mind, if I had been in NDMC -- would have throughout been in Delhi in Govt flats with no transfers as in Airlines. Had I joined All India Radio, Indore, I would have retired as a Dy Secretary.. would have my many publications by now as against what I was looking for petty translation work @ 50 paise per word in my recent years. At both places, retirement age was 60, against 58 in AI, and both would give a pension of about 40 thousand! Now, in the name of my pension, I am just getting nine thousand per month as interest on my 15L saving under senior citizen investment scheme. Thanks to kids who advised to not mix-up this amount in wedding expenditure. Earlier, it used to be twelve thousand when interest rates were higher. Sometimes, keeping in view son's wedding, we think to look out for a 3bhk apartment at noida extension (by contributing mine 15L, another 15L wife to withdraw from her PF, and 20L son to take as loan) and give this flat on rent of about 15 thousand as my new pension!  However, God is not favouring this plan for the present.

27वीं सालगिरह

.. So, with this sunset, we have completed 27 years in this house at Paschim Vihar - shifted on April 8, 1991. While searching a house, we were told to try near St. Mark's school; but we were unable to find the school itself. Many times, we used to come up to Jawala Heri market and return without success. Atlast we reached this block and finalised existing flat.

- So, there was no role of some Super power this time assisted you always in difficult situations?

- Of course, it was there!..

उन दिनों यहां फ्लैट का रेट एक लाख पांच हजार था। पैसा-पैसा कीमती था। मेरे 25 हजार इंदिरा विकास पत्र के रूप में फंसे थे जिनकी मैच्युरिटी अगले साल थी। मायूस-से हम एक पुलिया पर बैठे थे वापस चलने की तैयारी में। सोचा, पास ही एक प्रॉपर्टी डीलर से और मिल लेते हैं। शाम 6-7 बजे मच्छरों ने नाक में दम कर रखा था। डीलर एकबारगी अपना रजिस्टर खोल कुछ बताने लगा पर मच्छरों से तंग आकर कभी दिन में आने की बात करने लगा। इतनी देर में एक मकान की एंट्री पर मेरी नजर पड़ गयी और उसके अलॉटी का पता (कुछ,1590, देव नगर, जैसा) मुझे याद रहा। अगली छुट्टी पर वह पता ढूंढने पर किसी ने कहा, उसके लिए गली नम्बर पता होना जरूरी है (वहां 15 गलियां हैं)। मन में आया, गली नम्बर एक से ही शुरू हो जाते हैं। बस, पहली ही बार में सफलता। सीधे-सीधे कहा, 'आपके मकान का रेट एक लाख पांच हजार है। बिना डीलर के एक लाख में देते हो?' वह बोले, 'चलो, एक लाख एक हजार।' मैंने जेब से पांच सौ का नोट निकाल कर थमाया, 'न आपकी, न मेरी। एक लाख पर बात पक्की!'
